CHICAGO– September 19, 2016 – What started as a conversation between a father and his son became a mission to provide support to children and their families facing catastrophic and disabling diseases. This is the UP Foundation – a family foundation based on the principle of helping children in need through family services, education and awareness. It is a grassroots initiative making a difference in communities throughout Chicago area and touching the lives of children. Jefferey Ogden Katz, a litigation attorney at Patterson Law Firm, and his wife, Kaisa Auge-Katz, are founding board members and a driving force behind the Up Foundation along with the Joel and Diana Semmelhack family.
In August, The Up Foundation golf lovers and corporate and community leaders met on the greens for a day of fun and relaxation to benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation. The UP Foundation’s seventh annual outing was on held at The Glen Golf Club in Glenview, Illinois. An awards dinner and auction followed the tournament. This year, The Up Foundation raised nearly $140,000 for the Children’s Heart Foundation. In the seven years since its creation, The Up Foundation has raised more than three quarters of a million dollars to assist and benefit children in need.
“The Up Foundation continues to make a positive impact on the lives of children and their families,” said William Foley, Executive Director, Children’s Heart Foundation. “Since 1996, the CHF has funded more than 67 research projects with more than $8 million dollars in donations. The Up Foundation’s support of CHF this year will assist in our ability to fund life saving congenital heart defect research and our continued efforts in driving for a cure.”
