LinkedIn Sued for Improper Use of Customer Email Addresses

According to a complaint filed in California, customers are upset over the fact that LinkedIn, the largest professional networking website in the world, allegedly hacked into their email accounts to illegally market their website to its customers contacts.

The complaint goes on to state that the company requests that members provide an external email address when they sign up. Then, LinkedIn supposedly uses that information to access the accounts when they are left open and send messages to contacts requesting that they join the social media site.

LinkedIn,however, denies these accusations and plans to fight the lawsuit. The plaintiffs are seeking class action status and a jury trial.

Our next post will provide a more in-depth overview of the details of the complaint filed against LinkedIn.
