Questions You Should Ask a Breach of Contract Lawyer

Here are some questions we suggest you ask a breach of contract attorney.

  1. How many similar cases have you handled?
  2. How many of the cases you handled settled and how many went to trial?
  3. How much do you expect the lawsuit to cost?
  4. Are you willing to take the case on a contingent fee basis (if you are suing to collect money for breach of contract)?
  5. How long do you think the case will take to resolve?
  6. What is your opinion of the judge who has been assigned or is likely to be assigned to the case?
  7. What is your opinion of the opposing lawyer, if you know who it is?
  8. Do we need experts, and what are the likely charges for them?
  9. How many total trials have you had?
  10. Have you ever represented anyone connected with my opponent or any ally of my opponent?

These questions should not be asked in a cookbook fashion. Ask whatever you like. There is no stupid question. Trust your instincts, but beware of the lawyer who claims to be an expert in every area of practice. We know little about criminal law and practice, initial public offering transactions and taxation, but we know a lot about breach of contracts.
