Counterfeit Prevention on a Global Scale

You may be wondering how you can implement counterfeit prevention. While we often hear of intellectual property cases, we focus on the issue on a global scale less often. However, a panel of international attorneys discussed counterfeit prevention at the American Bar Association’s annual Intellectual Property Conference. The discussion, titled “Send in the Troops! Stopping Worldwide Trademark Counterfeit”, focused on strategies for protecting trademarks. The discussions highlighted the importance of working with customs officials and international lawyers.

The panelists stressed the importance of businesses filing for trademark protection and registering them in the countries where they are sold.

However, according to Reuters, the counterfeit rings’ level of sophistication may deter businesses from filing trademark protection. If authorities are unable to stop counterfeits, any attempts at recording trademarks will mean nothing.

Despite the skillful tactics many counterfeiters use to conceal fakes, authorities should train customs officials to recognize them.

We offer a range of trademark services including protection, enforcement, and dispute resolution. Additionally, we stay abreast of the trends to ensure the best possible service for our clients.
